Nine arch bridge

Most Beautiful Train Rides In The World

Famous train journey from Kandy to Badulla is knows as one of the most beautiful train raiders in the world. Sri lanka doesn't have a shortage of natural beauty. Demodara is a quaint and interesting railway station of sri lanka..

The bridge is situated  2km away from "ELLA" and   'Demodara" railway stations. Built by the britisher in the early 20th century , the station and the Nine Arch Bridge were engineering marvels of the day. This name is used since the bridge contains of a arch . It also known as "Ahas Nawaya Palama"(9 skies bridge) and this bridge is 300 feet along and 25 feet wide. Located almost 3100 feet above the sea level..
There is a popular story to say that when construction work was commenced on the bridge the world war  broke- out and the steel consignment assigned for this site was seized and was  used for war related projects. When the work came to a stand still the locals came forward and build the bridge with solid stone bricks and cement without steel.

A rather unknown story was published in the maubima news papers about the origin of this bridge. According to this article , The construction  of this bridge was given to a person call P.K Appuhami living in Kappitipola in Velimada. According to one of this grand sons now living in this house , P.K  Appuhami was born 1870 and has been popular drummer and a devil dancer..

Ella is has become on of the major tourist hotposts of sri lanka and it is largely due to the epic scenery and hikes in the region such as Ella Rock and Little Adam's Peak . one of those unique attractions is the Nine Arch Bridge in between Ella station and Demodara station..

The beautiful Nine Arch make it very picturesque spot especially as it is located in a dense jungle and agricultural setting. Behind the railway, a forest is booming and below , tea leaves are being cultivated. Many foreign and domestic tourists gather around and on the bridge in the hour before one of the trains is scheduled  to pass over the bridge. Trains pass the bridge about 6 times a day..

Sunrise is the best time to visit the bridge, by 10 am, it is getting more busy with tourists since it is the start of their day trip tour. Again, if you looking for something to do one afternoon in Ella, head down to the bridge a little before sunset to experience those soothing warm. Colors lighting up the bridge and the plantations in the valley below.

With so many epic spots like the Nine Arch Bridge spread out over sri lanka , it will be my best advice to plan your trip in advance with a guide like this 10 day sri lanka itinerary....

Surf up in arugam bay

              Tourist  Attraction in

                                             Arugam Bay

Arugam Bay surf beach is located 314 km from Colombo and 2.3 km south of the small town of Pottuvil in the Ampara district which belongs to the Dry Zone along the South  East coast of SRI LANKA......

Arugam Bay beach is a wide sweeping sandy beach in front the village of Arugam Bay and is an attraction for surfing and swimming all year round.  The Arugam Bay beach consists of coral reef which is home to an abundance of tropical fish and is a delightful snorkelling paradise. Although you can surf here all year round, the most favoured season is from April to October with the average height of waves being 1.5 to 2.5 meters..

The Arugam Bay territory is known for its quality surf breaks. Arugam Bay has a decent neighbourhood surf scene and is home to some of sri lanka's most gifted surfers and lately surfers from Arugam Bay have ruled national competitions.

The first international surfing competition in this bay was held in mid 2010..

Tourism in Arugam Bay is over whelmed by surf tourism on account of a few quality breaks in the Zone; however visitors are like wise pulled in by the neighborhood shorelines tidal ponds, note worthy sanctuaries and the adjacent Kumana national park..

The Kumana national park which is adjacent to the bag is one of the main tourist's attraction places of the entire area. Lahugala kitulana national park is one of the smallest national parks in sri lanka, but despite its diminutive size( 1554 hectares) the park is an important habitat for elephants and endemic birds including the sri lanka spurfowl and the Red-faced Malkoha. Herds of up to 150 elephants , attracted by the beugrass are a common sight at Lahugala tank (lake) during July and August.

Be over- awed by the flocks of birds that migrate to the Arugam Bay area in the months of November and December.

For Frist-time visitors to Sri lanka, I recommend stieking to this 2 week itinerary instead, even during the 'off ' season along the south coast read for why!!
